Optimise fire safety with thermal monitoring via infrared cameras

Nextech offers one of the most advanced infrared monitoring systems on the market, SAFETIS produced by Workswell.

The system enables the detection of ignition sources and temperature rises that cannot be seen with the naked eye or with traditional cameras, and can be installed in areas where there is both a fire and an explosion risk (SAFETIS can be supplied ATEX-approved).

With thermal monitoring via the SAFETIS system, the temperature development in vulnerable areas of production processes, storage facilities and transport systems can thus be monitored around the clock, so that an alarm is automatically triggered or extinguishing measures are initiated if the temperature exceeds the permissible values.

The monitoring system can also be used for flare monitoring in e.g. drilling platforms and petrochemical plants, or for monitoring processing or combustion processes to detect critical temperature fluctuations, or for monitoring processing machinery where temperature rises may indicate the need for maintenance work on that machinery.

The thermal monitoring system is tailored to each company’s needs based on where the specific risk areas are found.

The system includes:

  • Strategically positioned, moving thermal/infrared cameras with associated monitoring zones.
  • Server computer that receives and processes data from all associated cameras and initiates alarm and shutdown upon detection of critical increases in temperature.
  • Alarm system that warns employees of fire hazards via sound and light.
  • Control console with visualisation of monitoring zones and camera images.
  • Possibility of integration with existing control, alarm and extinguishing systems.

Examples of applications:

EARLY WARNING OF FIRE

In a thermal fire hazard area monitoring system, SAFETIS includes the following functions:

  • Trend analysis of temperatures – enables detection of smouldering material
  • Live view to support extinguishing operations, providing a clear image even through smoke and steam
  • Easy integration with existing fire alarm systems
  • Prevention of false alarms by masking hot components and filtering out temperature spikes, e.g. moving vehicles

LEAKAGE MONITORING

In a thermal leakage monitoring system, the following functions are offered:

  • Gas monitoring, avoid toxic fumes and comply with environmental requirements
  • Monitoring of engine compartment, oil mist, liquids and vapours
  • Long-range temperature measurement without the need for contact with the heat source
  • Monitoring of multiple sources with one system
  • Monitoring system that can be implemented in existing networks to minimise installation costs

MONITORING OF CASTING LADLES

In a thermal casting ladle monitoring system, SAFETIS includes the following functions:

  • Heat point analysis – enables early detection of weaknesses in the fireproof insulation
  • Trend analysis of temperature – enables maximisation of operating intervals and optimal planning of maintenance activities
  • Installation of high temperature-calibrated infrared cameras in water-cooled protective enclosure
  • Data storage in central server units
  • Web-based access for multiple users

FLARE MONITORING

In a thermal flare monitoring system, SAFETIS includes the following functions:

  • Automatic alarm if the flame goes out
  • Automatic switch to live view in case of alarm
  • Long-range temperature measurement without the need for contact with the heat source
  • Monitoring of multiple flares with one system
  • Monitoring system that can be implemented in existing networks to minimise installation costs

Project design steps for a thermal monitoring system

The design, engineering and installation of a thermal monitoring system follows this process plan:

One of Nextech’s fire protection experts will visit your company to identify risk areas in storage areas, production lines and transport systems.

The number and location of infrared cameras are defined.

System interfacing to servers, control units, remote access, alarm and extinguishing systems is defined.

The system is designed and engineered by our experts.

The system is presented and discussed with you.

The system is installed, tested and commissioned.

Relevant staff receive training in the day-to-day use of the system and in how to handle alarms.

Annual servicing is carried out, by agreement, by Nextech technicians or the company’s own trained staff.

Any replacement of components and refilling of extinguishing agent after the system has been triggered is carried out by Nextech.
